In the state of Florida, there are certain regulations that dictate how long truck drivers can drive for in one single run. These are found under Florida Statute 316.302, and they are for the protection of these drivers against companies who would be willing to endanger their employees in the name of getting tasks done more quickly. By putting these regulations in place, the state protects these employees against driving while exhausted and lessens the chance of accidents out on the road.
The Intrastate Hours of Service Rules dictate that a driver may drive twelve hours after ten consecutive hours off duty, that the driver may not drive after the sixteenth hour after coming on duty following ten consecutive hours off duty, that drivers may not drive more than seventy to eighty hours on duty in seven to eight consecutive days, and that drivers who do not exceed their 150 air mile radius and have no placarded hazmat are exempt from maintaining a log book.
